The HSIOIRS, as the entire scientific community, condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Witnessing an incredible humanitarian tragedy and wanting to help our colleagues and their patients in Ukraine in every possible way, we decided to contribute with a high donation to the fund established by ESCRS for this purpose.
In particular, the European Society has decided to set up a fund for the acceptance of financial donations that will be directed exclusively to support the relief efforts related to ophthalmology and resulting from the conflict in Ukraine. ESCRS has already identified the needs, coordinated efforts with Ukrainian counterparts and rented warehouses in Ukraine for the transfer of equipment, as well as the provision of ophthalmic equipment and other medical supplies by pharmaceutical companies.
However, the needs are great and the support from all of us, members of the medical community, is very important. At HSIOIRS we believe that humanitarian aid is the higher purpose and our financial contribution is the least we can do.
We express our respect and admiration for our colleagues in Ukraine and their vital work and hope for a peaceful solution as soon as possible.
